Captive power generation is not included in the monthly and year-end analysis of the power sector in India

72 GW of installed captive thermal capacity produced 215 BU of electricity, representing around an extra 16% of the utility sector’s thermal generation during FY 2023-24

While 9 GW of installed captive renewable capacity produced 9 BU of electricity, representing around an extra 2.2% of the utility sector’s carbon-free electricity (CFE) generation during FY 2023-24

This led to a share of Carbon-Free Electricity (CFE) dropping to 21.7%. In comparison, it is 23.5% when just utility data is considered
